What's the difference between
a functional trainer and a new home gym?
The new functional trainers are a type of home gym
that's versatile, simple, easy-to-use, and burns lots of calories. They can perform the same exercises as your
classic home gym.
The new functional trainers are based on a dual-cable pulley system. They have two weight
stacks, which are each hoisted by one cable and pulley. You move them by attaching the handle of your choice. Each side,
(or stack-cable-pulley-handle), is adjustable. You can adjust the handle high, medium or low.
The design can vary
slightly. Some have two adjustable "arms" on each side, for high and low settings. Others are set on a
"tower", or column, with different height settings from top to bottom. The Support & Coaching team staff
prefer the single-column design (over the four-arm design). It is more "user-friendly", less clumsy, and it
takes up less space.
If you have spent any time in a gym, then you have seen a cable cross-over machine. Basically,
the functional trainer is a cable-crossover machine for personal use!
Compared to the classic "cable
cross", the functional trainer is more compact and allows you to do more bilateral exercises because you can hold a handle
in each hand at the same time. ("Bilateral exercises" means working both sides of your body simultaneously). The
handles on a gym's cable cross are wide apart, so many folks can't use both at the same time.
When
you get a new home gym or functional trainer, you will usually get several different handles to attach to the cables. By simply
changing handles, you can do many different exercises.
You can easily create hundreds of different exercises just
by changing the height or the handle! If you're going to get a new home gym, you'll be happy with a functional trainer.

Why do thousands of people waste their money every year
on fitness equipment, gadgets and gizmos that offer only empty promises and no results? And why haven't you
found the right equipment for reaching your goals? You need to understand the "Fit-Right Formula".
In order to tone up, lose weight, and improve your health, you must have a lifestyle Plan. This plan must be based on
Goals. Those goals should be small and realistic- achievable for you. These goals must then be put into Action, with Action
Steps. (Here is where you make equipment decisions) In your Action Steps...related to your Goals...within
your Plan...you need to decide which fitness equipment will do the job!
Here is how you decide your needs. Ask yourself: • What
time will I set aside for my exercise work-out every day? • What type of equipment have I used in the past? •
Where will I work out in my home? How much space do I have? and also importantly, • How self-disciplined am
I?
Answering these questions will give you a better idea about which equipment to use to reach your goals. So,
essentially, the Fit-Right Formula means discovering which equipment is the "right fit" for your goals of "getting
fit".
But without answering these questions, and thinking about how you will use equipment to take
action and achieve goals, you will not start a successful program. Without these answers and decisions, you won't Lose
Weight, Tone your Body, or feel Healthier. In other words, You must apply the Fit-Right Formula!
(If you have no room in your home for equipment or work-outs, If you are easily distracted and lacking discipline,
If you are not self-conscious about working out around others, and if you have a gym within one mile of your home that offers a
variety of modern equipment and classes, then go get yourself a membership to that gym. Otherwise, choose the Fit-Right
Formula for a new home gym or equipment.)
